Privacy Policy
Last updated November 3, 2026
In short: we collect gameplay numbers about quests, not information about who you are. We don't collect character names, account names, emails, or chat, and we don't sell data. SAD Software LLC runs Open Road and is responsible for this data. Contact: support@sadsoftware.com.
What we collect
- Quest records: quest ID, character level, XP received, faction, the map and coordinates where you accepted and turned in the quest, the time it took, and when you turned it in.
- Install ID: a random ID the addon creates. It isn't linked to your Battle.net account. We use it to catch duplicate uploads and to handle deletion requests.
- Upload details: the upload time, file size, which app sent the upload, and a salted one-way hash of your IP address. We use the hash only for rate limiting and stopping abuse, and we never store your actual IP address.
Everything else in an uploaded file is thrown away when we process it.
Why we use it
We use this data to build and publish combined quest information for players and to keep the service safe. If you're in the EU or UK, our legal basis is legitimate interest (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)), together with your choice to upload.
What gets published
Only combined statistics appear on the site and in the addon, such as median XP, typical start and turn-in locations, typical time, and the number of players. Individual records and install IDs are never published.
How long we keep it
- Compressed upload copies: deleted automatically after 60 days.
- Individual quest records: kept while Open Road runs, or until you ask us to delete them.
- Rate-limit counters: deleted within 2 hours.
Sharing
We don't sell or rent data. Our hosting providers process it on our behalf. We'll disclose data if the law requires it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under GDPR or California's CCPA/CPRA), you may be able to see, delete, or correct your data, or object to how we use it. Email support@sadsoftware.com with the install value from your OpenRoad.lua file, and we'll delete every record linked to it.
Cookies
We don't use tracking cookies or third-party analytics. The upload page saves one random ID in your browser's local storage so it can catch duplicate uploads.
Children
Open Road isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll post the new version here and update the date at the top.
